Seasons of Grace

“To every thing …….. a season.”

“A time to be born” ………  A time to know.

“A time to die” …….. And then to grow.

To sense the touch of the Gardener’s hand.

With His strength and love ……. to stand,

And feel the rain upon our face;

To live in the sunshine of His Grace.

Ecclesiastes 3:2; Luke 9:24           F.R. 1995

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts;
and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24

(For the next few weeks I will be posting a poem once a week featuring the art work of my second oldest granddaughter, Kourtney Grace.)

This Old House of Prayer

Father, Son and Holy Spirit
In the morning hours, visit ~

Wake me with a gentle breeze,
Or however you may please.

Search my heart and know my thoughts;
Reveal to me what is of naught.

Remove that which you see as strange;
And by your own design, arrange ~

A place where you may sit and rest;
Where you may draw me to your breast.

Come and find a special place
Where You may dispense Your grace.

Stay ~ and at the noonday meal
Make me know You linger still.

Teach me of Your Holy Word ~
Of Your strength to undergird.

In my heart and in my mind
Write and hide that I may find.

All day long ~ into the twilight hour
Work in me indwelling power.

That I listen and hear your thoughts~
That I may love you as I ought.

Knowing that we both are blessed.
~ When You are Host, and I am guest.

(I wrote this poem after “meditating on my bed” in the early morning hours.   It was a blessing, as I have been concerned about my loss of memory recently; coupled with the study that our church is doing in Thomas Watson’s book The Great Gain of Godliness, Chapter 8 – The Godly Should Meditate on God’s Name. We are challenged to consider what and how often our thoughts are on God. My prayers are that whatever I forget, that I will never forget Him.)

GOD IS GREATER THAN

GOD IS GREATER THAN
our circumstances;

HIGHER THAN
our expectations;

BIGGER THAN
the universe;

MORE POWERFUL THAN
death:

&

NEARER THAN
our very breath.

“IN HIM WE LIVE AND BREATHE AND HAVE OUR BEING.”
Acts. 17:28

AND WE ARE IN HIM WHO IS TRUE, IN HIS SON JESUS CHRIST.
HE IS THE TRUE GOD AND ETERNAL LIFE.”
1 John 5:20

Dear Father, interweave between my human thoughts the truths and the authority of Your Word.  I thank you and praise you that Your Words are Spirit and Life to me.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

Grace and Grace Alone

Grace, and grace alone, could save a wretch like me.
I could not die for my own sins. Christ had to die for me.
A thousand deaths would not atone for my eternity;
Christ’s blood, and His alone, bought my sanctity.

His light, and His alone, shined deep within my soul.
The darkness of my heart was readily exposed.
His Word, and His alone, could speak new life in me.
My sin is great, but greater still, His grace has set me free.

His love, and His alone, drew me to His Son;
In covenant with Him, to be His very own.
In goodness, and in His alone, He brought me to repent,
To turn, to trust, to follow Jesus, whom He had sent.

His power, and His alone, gives life beyond my dreams;
Life in Christ, the life of grace, according to His means.
His glory, and His alone, suffices as an end.
His purpose in heaven and on earth, for Him; for me. Amen.

(This poem is the result of waking this morning  around 5:00, hearing the steady refreshing rain that has been needful for so long.  The next thing that came to mind was God’s grace, and after a few minutes I got up and began to write. Following are the Biblical references that apply.  I pray that those who read may use one or both to discover and refresh your heart in the  truth of God’s grace and His glory.)

His Light ~ 2 Corinthians 4:-6-7; Genesis 6:5
