Uniquely, this season of many deaths coupled with the celebration of new life in Christ has unearthed the message we most need to hear. Instead of gathering to offer our praises, we are being kept to ourselves to discover our personal needs.
In the three sermons I heard yesterday, repentance was the subject of each of these, a basic message that has been hidden for decades.
From Acts 2:36-38 to Luke 13:1-5 to Acts 11:18 the clear message was brought to the attention of the hearer.
When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life. Acts 11:18
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,” Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?Romans 2:4-8
Thank you, Fran. I love that His goodness and kindness leads to us repentance. What a beautiful God, what love, what patience. I don’t know about you, but I am pretty homesick for heaven -not in a depressed way … I am looking so forward to embrace and hear only Him and not to be so distracted by this world’s groaning and all that earthly noise. Thank for cheering us on, my friend.

” … repentance … a basic message that has been hidden for decades.”
SO true! In our fear of “offending” and our quest to make the gospel attractive, we have robbed it of its power. Repentance is where it all starts. How are we going to be saved if we can’t see what we need saving FROM?

Anne, thank you for your comment. Prayerfully, we are trusting He will bring us ~ everyone ~ to live everyday with a penitent heart, desiring Him to search us and know our hearts, to try us and know our thoughts and lead us in the paths of righteousness for His name;s sake. Blessings.
