Power and Mercy

Power without mercy is like
a locomotive without brakes.

It destroys everything in its path;

And eventually destroys itself.

Power With Mercy
Power with mercy brings things together, unites, and bears the fruit of its own working. Such was the purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ, to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8); to restore what His Father had created in their image.

All God’s creatures have power ~ power that was given when He created the first man. It is a latent power in each of us. How we use it depends on who harnesses it. Jesus Christ gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe in and follow Him so as to turn the power within us by His grace, to live in Him, and through Him. The fruit of His grace through us is mercy toward others, even those who continue under the power of the enemy.

Paul prayed for the first Christians:
“that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, (are) being rooted and grounded in love.” Ephesians 1:16-17

being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.  He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:11-14

Dear Father in heaven, as you watch your creatures here on earth, please have mercy upon us. Rend the heavens and come down; as the melting fire burneth, make your name known among the adversaries. Fill us with your Spirit of grace; unite us as your children that we may be light in this darkness. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Breakthrough

In February, Jerry and I were waiting in the podiatrist’s exam room for him to have his foot x-rayed. So as to encourage him, I said, “There is light at the end of the tunnel.”

His response was, “Are you sure it is not a locomotive?”

I said, gently, “Yes, I am sure.”

There was no definite meaning, nor explanation for my words, just sharing the spirit of God’s grace as we have experienced His presence through all our difficulties in the past.

The nurse wheeled him out, leaving me alone with my own thoughts in the cold, tiny room.

The still, small voice to which I have become accustomed in quiet times, asked, “Am I your God?’

Humbly, I answered, “Yes, Lord.”

“Then, trust Me.”

As simple as that, without audible conversation, I knew that however long this new episode would last, the Lord was assuring me of His presence and power with us.

Six Months Later
We have waited, as in times past, for healing, not only for treatment for the diabetic ulcer that podiatrists started in February, but for tests and an eventual stent for an aneurysm in his leg in April, to allow blood flow to the foot. Added to this was another wound from that incision

In July this wound closed after treatment with a wound vac. The same treatment did not work for the foot. This was their last resort after trying provadine, skin grafts, collagen, and foot baths. So, they sent us to the wound healing center thirty minutes away.

In this first visit last week, they took a culture that showed MRSA, a staph infection, for which they prescribed clindamycin. Yesterday, for our second visit, we were encouraged with the wound half the size as last week. The wound specialist believes this to be the reason for lack of healing, assuring us of complete healing soon.

At the outset of this sore, the primary care physician prescribed two rounds of antibiotics, but he, nor the podiatrist did a culture. There were no visible signs of infection while under the care of the podiatrist.

We are not resentful that they did not do a culture, but glad that it was done last week, believing that all things are revealed and healed in God’s timing.

Hidden Infection
This all reminds me of how things can be hidden. Just as we all carry the infection of sin within us, not knowing that we need healing, it manifests itself in different ways. Relationships are broken, families are torn apart, life can be emotionally and physically unhealthy because of hidden sin.

It is when we come to the only one who can do a culture for us that we know our sin, and accept the prescription, believing that He is able to bring total healing.

Jesus Christ came to earth as the Great Physician over 2000 years ago, He was, and still is, our breakthrough.

Gracious Father in heaven, we praise you for all things; for Christ, your Son, whom you sent to reveal our sin and to heal broken lives. We thank you for wisdom given to men to solve physical problems and to provide healing, believing that all healing is from you, for your glory and for the purpose of our serving you, living in praise and thanksgiving for your mercy, your grace, your goodness and power in our hearts and lives. Thank you for the encouragement that Jerry might soon be able to wear his prosthesis, and that we will be able to worship with your people again. We ask for your healing for others who are ill, in need of physical and spiritual healing. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Hidden Treasure

“As a child I had a recurring dream of walking a dirt path, and seeing the reflection of the sun on something in the dirt. Reaching down I discovered a penny. (When I was a child we picked up lost pennies.) As I picked it up, I found other pennies. Picking up the pennies, I found nickels underneath, and then dimes, and quarters and half-dollars in the dirt. The more I picked up the more I found buried in the dirt.

I could not understand this dream until,  as an adult, the Lord brought me into His Word. Then, I began to understand the treasures that are hidden there. The more we take, the more we see and desire and receive. As we continue to look to the path and take what He gives, more of the riches of God’s covenant and kingdom are revealed.

Jesus said, “It is the Father’s pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). It is His pleasure to open these treasures through His Word, that we may know the heritage that is ours.

In 1993 a year after my new birth, I began writing what our heavenly Father was teaching me of our inheritance through Jesus Christ. (1Peter 1: 3-4) I began writing a little book called The Legacy. It speaks of a will written by an ancestor who wanted to bequeath His fortune to future descendants. The Legacy speaks of itself through me of how God was revealing His love and kingdom to His children who would be born of His Spirit.

God’s Word is such as a father would write in His own written will to pass on all the wealth that he has to his children. Those who read and study, meditate, and take to heart in faith what is written, will discover that this wealth is indeed meant for them individually and corporately with other members of the household of faith ~ those whom God births into His own family. He desires us and sires us according to His own will and His timing, in different generations. He brings us through His Word and Spirit to know Him, to be born of Him, to believe and repent, turning in faith to receive all the promises of His inheritance, and to live the abundant life that is ours through His Son, Jesus Christ. There is no life that can compare to this life. It fulfills God’s purpose for our creation and redemption and becomes a delight for us as His children.“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). As we come to this garden that He has prepared for His children we find all our delight in Him. This is His ultimate purpose. God is our goal. His purpose is to satisfy us to the fullest in Himself. His desires become our desires.” The Garden of GOD’S WORD ~ The Purpose and Delight of BIBLE STUDY

Dear Father in heaven, how can we know you, your promises of the life that is ours in Christ, your Son, without your calling, and giving us a new heart and spirit to hear and respond? We praise you for your power to give us physical life and spiritual life through your Holy Word, making us your own children. Thank you for the delight we have in you. Nothing compares to the treasure of your Word and the power of your Holy Spirit to activate your Word in us. In Jesus’ name we thank you and praise you. Amen.

GOD Is Our Goal ~ GOD’S Plan for His People

(Fourth in the series Little Books About the Magnitude of God)
Our new book is available from Amazon.

How do you wrap up fourteen summers of study with your grandchildren? The diagram we used to summarize our years together is still on the blackboards (two stacked on the back of the door leading to our prayer room) from five years ago. This book, with the diagram, is the conclusion we came to ~ GOD at the top, our Purpose at the bottom, and His PLAN through JESUS between Him and us, doing His work to keep us and bring us to Himself.

“How many goals do we set in a lifetime? How many do we actually reach? The Christian worldview is one that sees goals based on what has been accomplished for us by our Creator and Redeemer. God has a purpose for His creation. He has a plan. He has set the goal, and by His plan in Christ, brings us to Himself. As we live in anticipation of reaching this goal, it affects all that we think, say and do, making our pilgrimage here a joy and a glory to Him.”
eBook $1.99  Paperback $5.59.

Dear Father, I pray for your grace to lead those who will read this book to see, to know, and to live in assurance of reaching the goal that you have set for us as your people. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

The CONCLUSION

screen-shot-2016-11-08-at-11-20-09-amToday we come to the conclusion of six weeks of prayer for our nation, and the conclusion of an election for a new President of these United States of America.

More importantly we come to the conclusion of the whole matter of all prayer for all things.

We have used the context of the prayer which our Lord Jesus Christ gave us, recorded for all generations and all times in Matthew 6:9-13.

In the Lord’s Prayer, we used the preface and the petitions, and now we come to the conclusion.

Petitions are sandwiched between the preface and the conclusion. Jesus meant for us to see that all is from God, the Father; through Him, and for Him.

All things, all conditions, and all conclusions rest in His hands and His plans.

He is the conclusion of all things, before the beginning and to the end.

The preface is to address the one to whom we pray ~ “Our Father in heaven.”

The conclusion is to establish our purpose for prayer to our Father in heaven ~

“For Thine is the kingdom

“The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.”
Psalm 103:19

and the power

“Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,
Psalm 62:11

and the glory,
forever.”
“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
Romans 11:36

Dear heavenly Father, we have these last six weeks poured out our hearts to you, seeking you, your kingdom, and your will as it concerns us as your children, the nation and the world in which we live.  We have no other means of wisdom, and authority.  You are our Father, the kingdom and power over all things.  You have promised your presence among us at all times, even when we can’t discern your leading and authority.  Make us to know your sovereign rule during times of uncertainty. When men and women are seeking their own glory, draw us to you to know your strength, your kingdom, your power and your glory over all.  By your Holy Spirit bring your truths to our minds and hearts.  Draw us closer to you and each other in prayer as we continue to seek your kingdom in our hearts and lives.  Make us strong in your word and in faith for what you have planned in the days and years ahead.  Let us always be ready to serve you and others in the name of Jesus our Lord ~ in whose name we pray.  Amen.
Music: Jude 24-25

Let Us Pray Together For Our Nation

Why should we pray together for our nation? Burdens and prayer go together. As Christians we expect our heavenly Father to place burdens upon us so that we will come to Him in humility for His intervention.

He has given us His Spirit of grace and supplication for times like these.

He has placed His Son, our Lord and Savior at the helm of His kingdom as our High Priest, and through His Spirit, He receives our prayers and supplications.

In these last few weeks before this presidential election, please join me at the beginning of each week to pray each of the petitions of the Lord’s Prayer.  We will see how it relates to each of us, personally, to our families, the church, our nation, and the world.  We ask that other nations join us. (See A World in Crisis)

Please consider fasting as the Lord leads you.

our-father-which-art-in-heaven

Dear Father, we come to you with the burden you have placed on our hearts. We see the handwriting on the wall. Believing that you are our heavenly Father who has birthed us into your kingdom, we need no other recourse but you. You care for us through your authority and rule over us as your children. During these times of uncertainty draw us near to you, show us your ways, teach us your paths, lead us in your truth, for you are the God of our salvation.

As we watch the proceedings leading up to this election, enable us to see all in your omnipotence, all happening under your control. Let our responses to these things be honoring to you, as we trust you in all things.

Let us not be anxious; let us not be fearful, but work in us that we may trust you explicitly in these coming weeks and for the end result.

Examine our own hearts and minds. Search us and try us as your people; let us not be found wanting, but in all things honoring you and your name ~ in our thoughts, our words, and our actions. Let the work that you do in each of us be honoring to you as a light to others who are fearful.  Let us be a blessing to those who have no hope.

Increase our faith during these times of uncertainty.

Let our attention not be on those who may be physically ruling this country. but enable us to keep our focus on you, your authority, your honor, your power, and your glory, for your name’s sake.
In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

God Just Doesn’t Get It

He does not see how wonderful we are
He does not know how intelligent we are.
He does not listen to our opinions.
He does not consider our good deeds.
He does not understand our boasting.
He is not impressed with our accomplishments.

            He is doing His own work.

            He is upholding all things by the word of His power.

            He is managing the universe.

            He is ruling and defending His kingdom.

            He is holding back His enemies.

            He is preventing wars and destruction.

            He is keeping a light on in the world.

            He is providing for our needs.

            He is working in the hearts of the humble.

            He is preparing a people to share His eternal glory.

As high as we can jump is the power we have to get God’s attention.
We would do better to fall flat on our faces, confess our weaknesses, inabilities and failures; and repent of our sin of pride. Then He would see us, raise us up, and bring us to Himself; provide for us, lead us, assure us, and nurture us as His own children.

0002Ue“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
  And do not return there,
But water the earth,
 And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
 And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
 And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”   Isaiah 55:10-11

Abba, Father, we need you.  Rend the heavens and come down, as the melting fire burneth, and make your name known to the adversaries.  Shine into our hearts the knowledge of your glory in the face of Jesus Christ.  In His name I pray.  Amen.

Do You Know Where You Are?

Awareness is a rare gift. Some are born with it. Others receive it at a special time in life. To see beyond our own peripheral vision can be a blessing or a curse. Being aware of others’ faults, mistakes, and weaknesses; judging and condemning them is a curse to others and ourselves. It is the gift that the enemy of our souls uses to work an oppressive spirit within us and toward others. This curse keeps us in a state of oppression and sin. We see in others a reflection of ourselves and continue in this state of oppression until we, like the prodigal son “came to himself.”

images

He realized where he was. The gift of awareness enabled him to see his condition, and his surroundings. He saw himself in reality of his sin and rebellion.

But, beyond himself he saw the blessing of forgiveness and reconciliation; he saw the means of returning to the father that loved him.

Awareness is a blessing when we are able to see and confess that we live in a fallen world. John said in John 5:19 “the world lies in the power of the evil one.” We were born into it, with a death certificate in our hands. We grow up in it. We are an integral part of it. And we will die in this state of oppression; of sin and misery, except as we are brought to ourselves; to see where we are and our own condition.

Every Good and Perfect Gift
The awareness that is a blessing enables us to see beyond our own, and others’ failures, to see the giver of this gift from heaven, which comes down from the “Father of lights.” (James 1:17)   Not only are our eyes opened to see where we are in this wilderness, but we see Almighty God, our heavenly Father, ruling and reigning over all things; our shepherd, our keeper, our shield; our God “who supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory.”

desert-streamWe are aware of His presence and power in and through, and over all things. In His covenant with us through His Son, Jesus Christ, we are assured that He will always be with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. These truths lived within us will be a blessing to others.

 “He hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure:
for this is all my salvation, and all my desire.
2 Samuel 23:5

Dear Father, please open our eyes today, to see where we are; to accept the conditions in which you have placed us.  Let us see Christ as you continue to reveal Him to us, in us, and through us.  Make us aware of your presence and power as we live, love, and rejoice in you.  Be a light, life, and blessings to us all.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

HUMILITY: ~ The Glory of the Creature Chapter 1

The following story is a result of God’s working in three particular areas  ~ ~
in my studying and praying for this first chapter on humility;
in my praying for wisdom to write a letter to encourage our granddaughter, Kourtney, who is turning eighteen this month, and graduating from high school this year;
and in my memorizing, playing and singing our Hymn of the Month, O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.

You may want to read the story; later read the first chapter from the PDF or the book; then come back for the remainder.  They fit together, but may be too long for one sitting. Remember, we have all month for meditation on this first chapter.

THE LITTLE BOAT

 Michael was a young man who, as a child, heard and read about, and saw movies, of distant places.  It became his heart’s desire to see the world.  So, getting an education, then a job, he saved his money.  Forgoing marriage until he realized his dream, he made his plans; and one day booked his passage on the largest cruise ship that he could find.
Having come to the day of fulfilling his dream, he arrived with his luggage at the place of departure.  The gigantic ship Pride was appropriately named.  Even from a distance its size and presence took his breath away. There was this huge world within a world, beckoning him to enter, to come away, and enjoy his success.  How proud he was to see his plans coming to fruition.  The ramp into the ship was ample for the multitude that was boarding upward into his dream.
Awe-struck, he practically tripped over himself as he carried his stuff to the ship.
As he struggled toward the ship another young man standing by asked if he needed help.
He said, “No, I can handle it.”
At the same time a small sign next to the man caught his eye  ~
~~~It read, “Boat to Paradise.”
“You have a boat?”  Michael asked.
“Sure,” the young man answered, pointing to the end of the pier.
Michael said, “I don’t see it.”
“Would you like to?”  the man asked.
He replied,  “Sure, I have a few minutes before my ship leaves.”
Walking to the end of the pier he saw this small fishing boat with a set of oars.
Snickering to himself Michael said “So, you take people to Paradise in your little boat?”
Understanding his cynicism the man answered,  “Yes, I do, one at a time.”
Now that his curiosity was stirred Michael asked,  “How many people have you taken to Paradise?”
The man answered,  “Only a few; not many people believe me, and so miss out on this one; most prefer the big ship, and all the other places.”
Then Michael’s interest was more than he could control and so, questioned once more, “How much do you charge for your little excursion?”
The man replied,  “There is no money in exchange; just understanding that you have to leave your baggage here.  You don’t need to take anything with you; everything you will need is provided for you.  You must also be willing to follow instructions.    You must listen to my directions.  I must teach you how to get through the rough waters; how to survive the long, slow passage; and prepare you for your arrival.  Without this dependence on me you will not make it; nor would you appreciate what you experience when you get there.”
Michael had one more question as he looked out over the ocean.  He saw beyond the cruise ship the brightness of the sun, but in the direction of the small boat  there were clouds.
“Do the cruise ships dock at Paradise?”
In reply the man said, “ The cruise ships are too big.  The inlet is only large enough for this small boat.”
Michael by then was intently drawn to this man; somehow he believed that what he was offering was true.  The man was not forceful.  He was not arrogant.  He was meek in his manner, yet very strong.
Michael, out of the corner of his eye, saw the cruise ship Pride move away from the port as he, with the help of the man’s hand, stepped down into his little boat.
As the man moved the oars across the waves, rippled by Pride, the little boat became steady.  Michael watched as his dream ship got smaller and smaller.  Further out he saw the ship sink into the horizon engulfed with flames and smoke.
Far out in the ocean, beyond sight of land, they passed through rough waters. They experienced rain, thunder and lightning, yet without fear or harm.
After the settling of the storm Michael and the man talked about life.  They compared the differences in each of theirs.  Michael learned much that he had not been taught in the schools he had attended.  The man told him that Paradise was a place owned by his father, who sent him to invite and accompany those whom he wanted to share his huge estate.  Each one there had been given a portion of his kingdom, and had the means and the liberty to go and come, as they desired.  Some brought others back with them to receive the same blessings.
Even before they arrived at their destination Michael’s dream had changed. He believed that there was a place, a Paradise, which had been deserted, and now restored; and revealed to only a few.  He learned that humility was the only means of getting there.  Reaching this destination meant trusting the one who invited him, and was taking him there.”
Not everybody will need an explanation of this parable, but for those who might  ~~ Michael represents those who trust in, and follow Christ, with whom God planned to save His people.  His Son knows the way of humility.  Having been born in humble surroundings of poor parents, brought up as a carpenter’s son, Jesus, the Son of God and Man, lived humbly, and so died humbly, by the pride and hands of men.  By His mercy He saves us from the sin of pride and destruction; by His grace He gives us a portion of His kingdom, and brings us to live with Him eternally.
Only He can teach us, and lead us in the way of humility.  There is no way to God except in Him and the power of His Spirit working in us to loose us from pride; that we may see it for what it is, to loathe it; to love and cling to the Savior.  It means total dependence on Him; not on ourselves, on others, or the things of this world.
In the reality of Christ our fantasies fade away.  True joy in this world is living in light of the promises of that eternal paradise with Him; each day humbly waiting on Him, as He works His will in us and prepares us for His glory.
Humility is accepting all things as they come; believing in His sovereignty and plans for us, praising Him in all things as we seek His kingdom and righteousness, anticipating that He will lead us to know Him and what He desires for us.  One on one with Christ is sometimes a lonely life, away from the business and frills of the world; but this alone is true life and happiness.  In His plans for us He brings us together with others who are following Him.
First Things First in the First Chapter of Humility
“Thou art worthy, O Lord,
to receive glory and honor and power:
for thou hast created all things,
and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Revelation 4:11
The treasure of humility is not easily seen in the world today.
To find “that which was lost” it is fitting that we return to the beginning, so that we understand what we are looking for.   In this first chapter Andrew Murray takes us back to God, the Creator, to reveal His purpose for our creation.
(Following the above story I had hoped to do a quick review, but after trying to shorten it there seemed to be something missing. Much of it is repetitive; but all relative to understanding Murray’s main points.)  Throughout this chapter he uses key pronouns and words that help us to see; so that we are able to sense our need of humility and its reality in our individual lives.  Here are the key words in the proper order.
                                                    GOD (Creator/Redeemer/Power)
                                             Relationship
                                                     Life
                                                    Man  (Creature)
GOD (Creator)
Before there was creation and a need for redemption there was God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; three in One.  There was relationship.  There was life, without earthly creatures.  There was the glory of God shared with the angels.  There was nothing so glorious as what they had been given in their relationship. But some wanted more; some wanted God’s place.
Relationship
(I have underlined ship, because it helps me to think of any word that ends in ‘ship’ as a place where there is unity, where two or more come together in the same mind, heart and spirit, with the same destination; relationship, fellowship, membership, etc. There is a captain, and passengers.)
 When God created the heavens and the earth, He made man in His image.  Men, not angels, were to be His image-bearers.  Through man He would reveal “the glory of His love, His wisdom and His power.”
As God is the ever-living, ever-present, ever-acting One — who upholds all things by the Word of His power  (Hebrews 1:3) —the relationship of man to God could only be one of unceasing, absolute, universal dependence.
“As truly as God by His power once created so truly by that same power must God every moment, maintain.”
 Life
There is no true life apart from this relationship.
“The life God bestows is imparted not once and for all, but each moment continuously, by the unceasing operation of His mighty power.
Pride
When the serpent breathed the poison of his pride  —the desire to be like God—into the hearts of our first parents, they, too, fell from their high estate into all the wretchedness in which man is now sunk.”
By leaving them to their own will, God proved that apart from Him they were unable to follow His instructions and fulfill their purpose.
Here is where Satan and man wanted to be; on the same level with God.
 GOD   Satan and Man
XXXXXX
DEATH
 The relationship between God and man was shipwrecked; they were removed from the life and joy that God had intended for them.
 It is at this point that we must see “Pride, or the loss of this humility, as the root of every sin and evil; the sufficient explanation of every defect and failure.”
“The truth is this — pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you.  Do not look at pride as only an unbecoming temper, or at humility as only a decent virtue.  The one is death, and the other is life; the one is all hell, the other is all heaven.  As much as you have of pride within you, so you have of the fallen angel alive in you.  As much as you have of true humility, so you have of the Lamb of God within you.”
 God (Redeemer)
Apart from our creation there is a second blessing and power for the Christian
the restoration of our lost humility, the original and only true relationship of man to God.”
“Jesus came to bring humility back to earth, to make us partakers of it, and by it to save us. Here on earth ‘He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death’ (Philippians 2:8).  And now the salvation He imparts is nothing less than a communication of His own life and death, His own disposition and spirit.”
“His own humility has become the ground and root of His relationship to God and His redeeming work.  Jesus Christ took the place and fulfilled the destiny of man by His life of perfect humility.  His humility is our salvation.  His salvation is our humility.”
 “And so the life of the saved ones, of the saints, must bear this stamp of deliverance from sin, and full restoration to their original state.  Their whole relationship to both God and man must be marked by an all-pervading humility.  Without this there can be no true abiding in God’s presence or experience of His favor and the power of His Spirit.  Without this there can be no abiding faith or love or joy or strength.”
It is here that we must meet our Creator and Redeemer— admitting, “that there is nothing so natural to man, nothing so insidious and hidden from our sight, nothing so difficult and dangerous as pride.  Let us feel that nothing but a very determined and persevering waiting on God and Christ will disclose how lacking we are in the grace of humility, and how weak we are to obtain what we seek.”
If we are to experience “this highest virtue, our only happiness, now and through all eternity we must present ourselves as empty vessels in which God can dwell and manifest His power and goodness; the form and the vessel in which the life and glory of God are to work and manifest themselves.”
“Humility is simply acknowledging the truth of our position as man and yielding to God His place.  It is the sense of entire nothingness, which comes when we see how truly God is all, and in which we make way for God to be all.”
 “Such humility (the humility of Christ) is not a thing that will come on its own.  It must be made the object of special desire, prayer, faith, and practice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 “If you could see what a sweet, divine, transforming power there is in humility, how it expels the poison of your nature, and makes room for the Spirit of God to live in you, you would rather wish to be the footstool of all the world than lack the smallest degree of it.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 As we continue each month in this pursuit and joy of humility “let us study the character of Christ until our souls are filled with the love and admiration of His humility.  And let us believe that, when we are broken down under a sense of our pride, and realize our inability to cast it out, Jesus Christ Himself will give us this grace as part of His wondrous life within us.”
                                                                                          “For whom he did foreknow,
              he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,
                           that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
                                                              Romans 8:29
Gracious Father in heaven, we thank you for bringing us to your Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer; and for the power of your Holy Spirit to work in our hearts and lives for repentance, redemption, reconciliation and renewal.  As we continue our study in the life of the Lamb let us experience this grace that works His humility in us through your word and divine power.
“Of your great goodness make known to us and take from our hearts every kind and form and degree of pride; and awaken in us the deepest depth and truth of that humility which can make us capable of your light and your Holy Spirit.”  In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
 O the deep, deep love of Jesus,   Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me,
Underneath me, all around me,   Is the current of Thy love;
Leading onward, leading homeward   To Thy glorious rest above.
 O the deep, deep love of Jesus,   Spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth,   Changeth never, nevermore;
How He watches o’er His loved ones,   Died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth,  Watcheth oe’r them from the throne.
 O the deep, deep love of Jesus,   Love of every love the best;
‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing,   “Tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus,   ‘Tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me;
And it lifts me up to glory,   For it lifts me up to Thee.
